Ezel releases Origins EP on his brand new label Bayacou Records

Bayacou Records is an exciting brand new electronic music record label founded by Dj/Producer Ezel.

For many years Ezel has been collaborating with some of the most respected and revered house music labels around such as Ocha, Local Talk and most recently Defected Records. In this process, the development of his sound and identity as an artist has experienced a magnificent sense of growth and personal belonging.

With the launch of Bayacou Records, we strive to seek even higher grounds in terms of music with a strong spiritual vibe behind. Regardless of what shape or form the music takes, the voice that resonates from within is instantly recognizable. It is the one of creating without limitations and always from the heart, a reflection of what true art is all about.

The first release in the brand new label is Origins EP. Rooted in deep spirituality, this EP is a collection of grooves to aid dance floor meditation and connection with one’s higher self.

Ezel’s You Got Worked signed to Defected Records

A major Ezel release is coming out on Defected Records in the form of “You Got Worked” ft. Mateo Senolia on the words and including a serious remix from Ocha Record’s Casamena.

The jam has been on heavy rotation with heavyweights like Louie Vega and has been prominently featured on the Defected Radio Show. Just this week it was selected as Defected’s Most Rated in this awesome house music podcast with more than 100,000 listeners worldwide.

A protégé of Osunlade who hails from the Dominican Republic, Ezel demonstrates a real flair for making deep, acidic house beats that touch on the transcendental. ‘You Got Worked’ is rhythmic, intense and playful all at once. Mateo Senolia’s profound tones create equilibrium, balancing out the acidity of the beat with its smooth and spiritual qualities. Flanked by an Ice Cold Edit which pares back much of the sharp rhythms, a formidably deep remix from CASAMENA (aka Carlos Mena, himself a musical being from the Yoruba dimension) and an Accapella, ‘You Got Worked’ is a truly unique record.

Mezami, New EP coming on Ocha Records

After 6 years of much living and learning, Ezel brings brand new sounds to a label he is very familiar with. We are really proud to present you with first look at “Mezami EP” coming out very soon on Ocha Records.

Things start off with “Mezami” the piece who lends its name for this EP.
Haitian folk vibes meets sexy soulful musicality to create an AfroSoul Future Classic.

Divine Sacred Dance follows up as a collaboration with Ocha label owner/producer/Dj and Yoruba Ocha priest Carlos Mena. A prayer to the sacred act of dancing with purpose, when not only the body but the soul gets lifted.

Finally,  Ezel meets Yoruba Records artist Mateo Senolia on a intense Afro Tech vibe in “You Got Worked”. As a musician, poet and novelist of Kreyol heritage, Mateo paints a unique  picture thru a cutting edge spoken word performance while Ezel’s hypnotic synth lines curl around some hardcore truths that will make you ponder.

2 version of this tune included in the package, the original version and a stripped “Ice Cold” version where the dance intensifies as the messages comes down hard. Expect an intense ride.

A truly deep EP that is more than dance ready. Intended for those who dance with their feet but also those who dance into higher knowledge with their soul and open heart.

Traxsource Getting Down with Ezel (Interview)

Ezel is a multi-instrumentalist, house music producer and DJ. He started his career in 2007 remixing work for such labels as Yoruba and Ocha Records. In 2010, he received worldwide recognition for his single “In My Lifetime” featuring Tamara Wellons, who got remixed by the likes of Deetron, Atjazz among others. From that moment on, Ezel has been a sought after DJ having performed in places like Japan (Tokyo Crossover Festival), Amsterdam (ADE), France (Djoon), USA among other places. A man of many musical visions, his style of work reflects his desire to always keep pushing envelopes thru musicality and passion.

We caught up with Ezel to talk about his New EP on Local Talk and more.

Your artist name Ezel is actually your birth name – is there a special meaning behind it?

I like to think it is special… altho I doesn’t have any particular meaning to it.

Seems like you’ve had a bit of a break from house music – what have you been up to the last few years?

Mostly growing in other aspects of life. The time away helped me re-design myself for the future ahead so I am pretty grateful.

The release we’re here to talk about is the ‘Get Down EP’ you did with Tumelo via Local Talk, tell us in your words a little bit about how it came to be and and what prompted it’s musical direction?

Well basically the song came first as a 16 bar jam that I sent to Tumelo to see if we could try doing something together. I appreciate the fact that he was very receptive of the initial input (funny it was the deeper bayacou mix I sent first). After I got his vocal parts, listening to them in acapella, I kinda felt I had hit a gold mine because his vocal tone was so pure and funky. So having done the deeper version first, I went again to the drawing board and then sketched the soulful (original) version – trying to convey more of a complex performance with response, hooks, etc. Suddenly, I had 2 strong tracks, one being a remix.

Hooking up with Local Talk came to be pretty organically. I usually send my works in process and stuff over to some close friends who are also DJ/Producers, for another pair of ears. So I sent these to Kiko Navarro and it was him who encouraged me to send these over to Mats. He replied positive and the rest is history.

Has your roots starting as a piano player at your local church (over a decade ago) helped shaped you into the artist you are today?

Well, I guess so. I remember back then I only could play a limited amount of chords and my chops wheren’t nearly as smooth as they are today.

But even back then, while being at that church feeling the spirit doing what I love and comparing it to now, whenever I hit a dancefloor with dancers, poets and people who come to feel the music… it just feels like a church and I am sure the spirit is there as well.

What artists (dead or alive) have directly influenced your sound the most?

I am tempted to say Prince and leave it there… but then again, there are so much more. On a house tip… my favorite producer is Deetron.

What’s next for you?

I’m gonna keep building my partnership with Local Talk by releasing yet another project with them. Things are looking really good right now, I really appreciate the positivity the guys are putting into this project and the support they have given me and you guys as well.

On another tip, there is very special Ezel EP more afro house oriented to be released on Ocha Records. Not sure the release date but I think it will come in the fall. Can’t miss that! Besides that, well a few remixes here and there and hopefully some gigs will come along.

Ezel joins the Local Talk family with “Get Down”

Music has always played a major part in Ezel’s life. Having done remix work for labels such as Yoruba, King Street and Reel People and working with artists such as Tortured Soul, Daz-I-Kue, AtJazz, John Arnold & Jeremy Ellis it’s now time to welcome Ezel to the Local Talk family with ”Get Down”.

Opening is the title track ”Get Down (Original Mix)”, with it’s immersive chords, bumping bassline and the help from the unmistakeable vocal talents of Tumelo, it’s house the way we like it. Both soulful and deep.

On the b-side Ezel serves us a remix of Get Down. There’s no denying in that there’s a strong Onsulade Envision-esq feel to this one – and that’s a good thing. An absolute must for every DJ’s bag, trust us. Finally production heavyweight Atjazz revisits the glory of the Bayacou Mix but focusing more on the finer tweaks, it’s all in the details folks.

Collaboration with Mateo Senolia

In the past few months Ezel has been reconnecting with the craft and tagging along some friends for very exciting collaborations. We are thrilled about the upcoming Ezel releases of the coming months. Here is one the highlight projects done in collaboration with the very talented, extremely deep musician/poet/Dj Mateo Senolia.

As some of you might recall, Mateo along partner Garth Trinidad released last year the phenomenal EP “Postcard from Strangers” on the mighty Yoruba Records label.  It was thru listening the “Sacre Sucre” that Ezel got inspired and decided to conjure Mateo for a incredible track title “You Got Worked”.

This song will be part of a upcoming Ezel EP that marks his return to Ocha Records, a familiar place that took on breaking him into underground house music international scene.

This release its expected to come out in the fall, can’t wait for the amazing collaboration.
